Next Friday, November 28, 2025, at 8:30 PM, Hotel Mary in Celaya will open its doors to welcome one of the most versatile and recognized Cuban pianists of his generation: Daniel Antonio Herrera Cárdenas. With his grand piano, Herrera will offer a sonic journey that will travel between feeling, bolero, and son, accompanied by the guest group Manglares de Cuba, arriving directly from Havana to join this evening that promises to be a meeting of roots and modernity.

Born in Havana on July 21, 1962, Daniel Herrera began his musical studies at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory, where he graduated as an elementary piano teacher in 1977. Subsequently, in 1983, he obtained the title of Instrumentalist Piano Professor at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, and in 1987 he graduated with a degree in Music with a specialty in piano from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana. His training was characterized by the rigorous discipline of the Cuban school, which provided him with a solid technique and an interpretive sensitivity that would mark his career.

In 1988, he performed as a harpsichordist for the Havana Chamber Orchestra and as a baritone for the Cuban National Choir, with performances on prestigious European stages such as the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the Monastery of Montserrat in Catalonia, and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. This international stage showed his versatility, capable of moving between piano and lyrical singing, and positioned him as a comprehensive artist.

His arrival in Mexico occurred in 1994 when he was invited to teach a course at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. What was intended to be a six-month stay turned into a definitive residence, as Herrera found a fertile ground in the country to develop his career and connect with the tradition of Mexican bolero, Yucatecan song, and trova. Since then, he has resided in Mexico City, consolidating himself as a concert pianist, composer, and cultural promoter.

Herrera has recorded albums and offered recitals dedicated to Cuban and Mexican bolero, revitalizing the genre with piano arrangements and his own compositions. He has paid tribute to Ernesto Lecuona, interpreting emblematic pieces like La Malagueña, and has worked to disseminate the work of other Cuban and Mexican authors. His music, as he himself has pointed out, is "embroidered with all the desire that love secures," reflecting his vision of art as an act of surrender.

In Mexico, he has participated in radio and television projects, notably his program Pianissimo con Daniel Herrera, broadcast on Canal 22, where he introduces the public to concert music and the Ibero-American repertoire. He has also collaborated with Radio Educación, where he was interviewed about his training and career as part of the "Herreras al piano" event, which brought together pianists of different generations who graduated from the Amadeo Roldán.

The performance in Celaya will be an opportunity to hear a repertoire that includes Cuban and Mexican boleros, songs from the Yucatecan tradition and trova, with grand piano arrangements that highlight the warmth of feeling. Manglares de Cuba will contribute the Havana roots and the contemporary accent of son, creating a sonic conversation between the island and Mexico.

Hotel Mary, located at Boulevard No. 108 corner Zaragoza, in the downtown area of Celaya, will be the stage for this evening that promises impeccable technique, emotion, and a musical narrative that unites Havana with Mexico. For reservations and access, the following telephone numbers have been provided: 461 112 6530 and 461 169 9951. #MetroNewsMx #GuanajuatoDesconocido
