Guanajuato is making a strong mark on the meetings tourism map and is emerging as the venue for the MPI Mexico National Congress 2026, one of the most relevant gatherings in the country’s MICE industry. Under the leadership of the Government of the People, headed by Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, the state consolidates its role as a strategic destination in central Mexico, with six key cities: León, Guanajuato City, Silao, San Miguel de Allende, Irapuato, and, notably, Celaya.

Meetings Tourism has placed Guanajuato in the category of an international destination, thanks to its infrastructure, connectivity, and cultural offerings. The Secretariat of Tourism and Identity, led by Lupita Robles León, is working in coordination to ensure the state hosts the MPI Mexico National Congress 2026, an event that brings together the leading professionals in the sector and sets trends in innovation, sustainability, and the future of the industry.

As part of the venue selection process, the MPI Mexico Chapter conducted an inspection visit in León in December 2025. Over three days, representatives of the Organizing Committee —including Hugo Rosas Guzmán, president-elect of MPI Mexico— toured hotels, venues, and tourist attractions, accompanied by the SECTURI team. The evaluation included hotel infrastructure, logistical capacity, connectivity, and cultural offerings, elements that reinforce Guanajuato’s competitiveness.

The MPI Mexico National Congress convenes national and international specialists in panels and conferences, while also fostering networking among planners, suppliers, destinations, and companies. It is a space that generates business alliances, opportunities, and strengthens the professionalization of the sector.

In its 2025 edition, held in Mexico City, the event brought together more than 300 participants and featured a broad Guanajuato delegation composed of León, Guanajuato City, Silao, San Miguel de Allende, Irapuato, and Celaya, confirming the active presence of all the state’s MICE destinations. For 2026, the organization plans to hold the next edition in July, opening a unique opportunity for Guanajuato to consolidate itself as the venue of a high-level gathering.

The inspection also included visits to cultural and tourist venues, as well as meetings with authorities and representatives of the hotel and convention sector. Guanajuato, together with San Luis Potosí and Aguascalientes, is part of the MPI Bajío Mexicano Chapter, which strengthens the region as a national benchmark in infrastructure and professionalization for MICE tourism.

With the support of the Government of the People and the strategic vision of the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity, Guanajuato reaffirms its commitment to attracting international events that drive economic impact, strengthen sector competitiveness, and consolidate the state —including Celaya— as a world-class host.   #MetroNewsMx #GuanajuatoDesconocido
