Michoacán cinema as the guest of honor
The fifth edition of the Celaya Experimental Film Fest 2025 has achieved an unprecedented response among the young audience, who from June 18 to 20, 2025, have gathered to witness the narrative power of Michoacán as a special guest. This delegation presents the Short Films from the Michoacán Section Program 1, works in competition from the 22nd FICM that offer a technical and visual journey through the state's identity. Attendees enjoy this exhibition alongside thirty short films selected from seventeen countries and three continents, consolidating a global cultural exchange in the Bajío region.
The programming begins with Día de fiesta, directed by Juan Carlos Oñate Chirot, a 2024 color work with a duration of 18:08 minutes that portrays the patron saint festival of San Felipe de los Herreros, in the Purépecha plateau, culminating with the burning of "castillos" (firework structures).
It is followed by En el umbral más lejano, by Canek Miguel González Jiménez, a 2024 black and white piece of 40 minutes where the character of Frida experiences her true self beyond pain.
For her part, Verónica Maciel presents El guardián, a 2024 color short film of 16:04 minutes that narrates the story of Atziri and the disappearance of her son Jacinto, exploring resilience and maternal love.
The experimentation continues with Mintsita, paisajes y respiraciones interferidos, by Celina Manuel, a 2023 cinematic essay that mixes color and black and white in 2:28 minutes to question the murmurs of nature.
Artemisa Carvajal Barragán contributes Paisajes de valor, a 2024 work in color and black and white of 3:06 minutes that interprets the vocabulary of those who contemplate it.
Animation is present with Por ahora no, by Juan Paulín, a 2024 color short of 4:10 minutes about the dreams of a small robot, followed by Soliloquios, by Bernardo Rugama, a 2024 black and white piece of 5 minutes about the introspection of a sick man.
Finally, Solo los muertos saben, by Andrés Alonso Ayala, closes with 13:44 minutes in color from 2024, reflecting on the blurred path of the rituals of the dead. #MetroNewsMx #GuanajuatoDesconocido
