The registration and selection of short films for the 5th Edition of the Celaya Experimental Film Fest (CEFF 2025) have concluded, announcing a total of thirty works distributed across eight categories that confirm the global nature of the event. The program includes pieces from more than ten countries and various genres, ranging from Video Art to Biometrics.
In total, there are 17 participating countries, including Spain, Greece, Italy, the United States, Panama, the United Kingdom, Iran, Indonesia, Canada, France, Mexico, Poland, Brazil, Finland, Ecuador, Argentina, and Germany. The 30 films were selected from a total of 500 submissions received after the call for entries.
The Experimental category is the most extensive with eleven titles. The selection begins with "Waters that sculpt fire," from Spain (duration 13:28), directed by Victoria Ioudina, and "Lluvia" (Rain), a co-production of Greece, Italy, and the USA (duration 6:01), by Vasilios Papaioannu.
Also featured in this section are "Soomacracia" from Panama (duration 5:00), by Mabel Cristina Guerra Cheva and Pedro Antonio Neri Quintin, and "The Gravitation of the Lens" from the United Kingdom (duration 7:50), by Paul Wallis. Another four films—"Lymph" from Iran (duration 11:49) by Ashkan Zehtab, "Sinovial" from Spain (duration 8:37) by Natalia Colina, "Sadulur Opat Lima Pancar" from Indonesia (duration 5:00) by Rizky Zulfanny, and "Talisman" from Canada (duration 4:29) by Caitlind r.c. Brown—will be screened as part of the "screenings of the month" in Cinema casual.
Also selected was "Gabians" from France (duration 17:36), directed by Laurent Reyes. Additionally, "Not A Body" from Canada (duration 3:49) by Cassandra Paige, and "Trouble with Johnny" from the USA (duration 4:33) by Paul Echeverria.
The Contemplative/Slow Cinema section includes three works: "Kenopsia," from Mexico (duration 16:45) by Miguel Ángel Torres Toriz, "CHMYZ" from Poland (duration 10:00) by Kaja Jakubowska, and "Mi pequeño Centinela" (My Little Sentinel) from Brazil (duration 14:46) by Lucas Marques, which will be part of the screenings of the month in Cinema casual.
In the Surrealism category, the three films are "Verano de Fellini" (Fellini's Summer) from the USA (duration 11:26) by Jirafa Nicola and Jirafa Juliana, "La novia de oro" (The Golden Bride) from Mexico (duration 7:47) by Alejandro Acuña Sevilla, Sara Coello Coello, and Diego Serrano, and "Círculo de piedra" (Stone Circle) from Finland (duration 5:38) by Hannu Nieminen.
The Video Art section presents four works: "Iputini: Sampling the jungle" from Ecuador (Video Art/Sound Art, duration 15:00) by Diego Eduardo Benalcazar Vega, "Lo que no vemos pero está" (What We Don't See But Is There) from Spain (duration 6:00) by Vega Mancebo; "Coleoptera" from the USA (duration 9:59) by Christie Lynn Blizard, and "Gato Luna Escorpio" (Cat Moon Scorpio) also from the USA (duration 1:00) by Chase Bradburn.
The Videodance category includes "Cuerpo es Cuerpo" (Body is Body), from Argentina (duration 6:00) by Ailin Sofia Barsanti, "The North Wind and The Sun" from the USA (duration 4:56) by Anat Pollack, and "Two too odd" from Germany (duration 4:35) by Dave Lojek.
In the Animation category, the works "Los Peces no Sueñan" (The Fish Don't Dream - Animation/Avant-garde Collage) from Mexico (duration 11:36) by Montse Reyna, and "Brixton Bustle" (Animation/Abstract) from the United Kingdom (duration 5:00) by Shaun Clark will be part of the screenings in Cinema casual.
Finally, the Local section presents two Videodance films from Mexico: *No me llames bruja* (Don't Call Me Witch) (duration 2:58) by Yahaira Serrano and "The dance of darkness" (duration 6:14) by Omar G Neri.
